Bondhu and Bangladesh Forest Department Sign MoU to Launch CASMAR Project
Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation (Bondhu) and the Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 5 January 2026 at Agargaon, Dhaka, marking a pioneering milestone in Bangladesh’s journey toward climate action and sustainable forestry.
Through this MoU, BFD and Bondhu formally entered Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) project development, ushering in a new chapter in carbon market initiatives in Bangladesh.
This collaboration introduces the Carbon Sequestration through Mangrove Afforestation and Restoration in Bangladesh (CASMAR) Project, a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing carbon sequestration through mangrove afforestation and restoration.
The MoU signing ceremony was graced by the presence of senior representatives from the Bangladesh Forest Department and Bondhu. Among the attendees were Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests, Bangladesh Forest Department; Dr. Engineer Khalequzzaman, Program Manager; and Dr. Animesh Sarker, CEO of Bangladesh Bondhu Foundation (Bondhu).
